Play to Participate – Participate to Play P2P

The project idea stems from the fact that the involvement of young citizens in social or civic activities represents an important challenge in the modern world; youth social and civic engagement is still far to be defined satisfactory. Youngsters’ participation to democratic processes is insufficient and the decisions and proposals taken from the governing bodies are used to have a top-down approach, “offering” and “proposing” solutions to youngsters without guaranteeing them an active role in the process. The lack of inclusion mentioned could be seen in most of the sectors of the society, including sport federations and sport governing bodies.
The reasons behind the lack of youth involvement could be defined as multifactorial; one of the factors identified is the absence or insufficiency of effective models/ mechanisms to connect the needs of young people, their proposals and the related youth policies. Even in countries where young people’s participation models are structured, it is still missing their involvement in the planning and organizational process meant for setting up mechanisms of youth participation. Youth is also not offered with a suitable model with methods (that include preparation) to be used to empower and facilitate their involvement in policy-making.
The P2P project would like to tackle these issues creating new structured models of youth participation in the creation and development of Sport regulations, acts and laws addressed to give an answer to the youngsters’ needs, allowing the practicing of a real bottom-up approach and facilitating young people active role in the policy making in the field of Sport.
